Nyoman Arep: The Village Painter Who Paints Dreams
Nyoman Arep is 54-year-old painter, was born into a family of artists, but he’s the only one who still paints today. He grew up in a village where painting was as common as playing hide-and-seek!
When Nyoman was just 7 years old, he started learning to paint from the people in his neighborhood. While his friends eventually stopped painting and chose different paths, Nyoman kept following his passion for painting. Even though he works at a villa not too far from his home, he always finds time to bring his colorful creations to life on canvas. Nyoman’s love for painting began as a tradition in his village. Everyone around him was making art, so he joined in too! As he grew, painting became his own special passion that he held onto tightly.
One day, Nyoman joined a group called Sanggar Seni Pelangi. They encouraged him to keep doing what he loved most: painting! Before, most painters in his village struggled to make a living because they had to sell their paintings through distributors. But Nyoman and his friends changed that. They decided to sell their paintings directly to the people that really love to collect paintings.. This meant they could use better materials and let their imaginations run wild!
Now, Nyoman creates unique paintings that people adore. He even gets to show off his artwork in exhibitions with his friends from the community. Meeting new people who love his art and sharing his paintings with the world fills Nyoman with excitement and joy!
Painting isn’t just a hobby for Nyoman; it’s a way of life. He spends most of his free time painting, and he never gets tired of it. Nyoman dreams of continuing to create art with his friends and preserving the beautiful tradition of painting in his village for generations to come.
